GOLF CLUB MONTREUX
🇨🇭 Aigle, Vaud, CH
Designed by Donald Harradine, Ronald Fream
Golf Club Montreux sits in the Rhône Valley near Aigle in the canton of Vaud, approximately fifteen kilometers inland from Lake Geneva. The course occupies terrain between the valley floor and the lower slopes of the surrounding Alps, with views extending across vineyards and toward the peaks that define this part of Switzerland. Ronald Fream and Donald Harradine designed the layout, which opened in the 1980s on land that transitions from relatively flat agricultural parcels to more rolling, wooded sections.
The routing takes advantage of the natural elevation changes, with several holes playing uphill or downhill through corridors of mature trees. The front nine tends to move across more open ground, while the back nine climbs into hillier, more enclosed terrain. Water features appear on a handful of holes, and bunkers are positioned to define landing areas and guard greens. The course measures over 6,000 meters from the championship tees, offering length appropriate for competitive play while remaining accessible from forward markers.
Montreux serves both local members and visitors exploring the Lake Geneva region. The club operates in a setting where golf is less common than in neighboring France or Germany, and the course provides a mountain-valley experience distinct from links or parkland designs found elsewhere in Europe. The clubhouse overlooks the property and the broader valley, and the facility includes practice areas and dining typical of Swiss golf clubs.
Reviews
Course is in very standard parkland course shape but I’d pay the all in cost 10x over for the views. Watching your golf ball disappear up a swiss alp mountain and then fall out of the sky onto a green is a once in a lifetime experience. Walk the course, it’s flat, breathe in the air, it is crisp as an apple right off the tree of an orchard.
