MIDLAND HILLS COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 St. Paul, MN, USA
Designed by Seth Raynor

Midland Hills Country Club, nestled in the rolling landscape north of St. Paul, is where Minnesota golf subtly shifts from Midwest farmland to something altogether more intriguing. This classic parkland course, dating back to the 1920s, presents a deceptively gentle challenge, rewarding thoughtful strategy over brute force. A number of holes dogleg left and right - forcing you to hit different types of shot - while many are also tree-lined.
Designed by famed architect, William Watson, Midland Hills saw a masterful restoration by Ron Forse, respecting Watson's original intent while subtly modernizing the playing experience. The layout unfolds across diverse terrain, with elevation changes and strategic bunkering that dictate a considered approach.
While Midland Hills may not hold a place on the global stage, its enduring appeal rests within its vibrant membership and commitment to preserving a classic golf experience. The club has a very active mens league that is popular with its members, and the club has an exceptional tennis facility that's quite busy.
Reviews
One of the now best in the city of Minneapolis. Seemingly not getting underrated anymore this renovation is pure. The fescue is beautiful and the Raynor layout is so freaking good. I love this course every time. Is it a bit easy? Sure, but like who cares. A classic case of inner city tiny driving range so you will never get your practice in with the big stick but everything else about this place rules.
First, the entire staff at the club was 100% dialed in my last visit. Second, I played with two members who I would love to play with anywhere any day, a dream match up, and one of them broke 30 on one of the nines. Not a very hard course, but I’m no sadist, so that’s fine. The course is a blast right out of the gate. The fescue is unforgettable, if slightly overdone. Feels like there are a few strains of grass on the incredibly consistent greens (love the greens, you can make everything.) And the course offers you a ton of shot variety which I love (you can kind of overpower it but you’d be missing out.) Midland is one of those clubs like LACC, that is so well executed in its natural surroundings that you easily forget you’re in a thriving metro area. I find it curious how hard they lean into the Raynor identity, but it’s important to them so that’s cool. Nothing pretentious, nothing gimmicky, nothing unnecessary. A pure golf club.
Probably the most underrated course in Minnesota since the renovation. Template greens make for interesting pins and fun approaches. The Short 4th, Eden 7th, Cape 8th, Biarritz 12th, and Alps 14th are the highlights, but the rest are no slouches either
