DUN LAOGHAIRE GOLF CLUB
🇮🇪 Enniskerry, Wicklow, IE
Designed by Martin Hawtree
Dun Laoghaire Golf Club occupies elevated terrain in Enniskerry, County Wicklow, approximately fifteen miles south of Dublin in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. The club relocated to this site in the 1990s after outgrowing its original seaside location in Dun Laoghaire town, and Martin Hawtree designed the current layout to take advantage of the property's natural contours and mountain views. The course sits at a higher elevation than the original links, trading coastal exposure for a parkland setting with mature trees and rolling topography.
The routing works across varied terrain, with several holes playing along ridgelines and others descending into lower-lying areas. Hawtree's design incorporates the natural movement of the land, and the layout features strategic bunkering and green complexes that reward accurate approach play. The property offers views across the Wicklow landscape, and the course benefits from good drainage despite the region's frequent rainfall.
Dun Laoghaire Golf Club maintains its connection to the broader Dublin golfing community while serving members from the surrounding Wicklow area. The club's history extends back to the late nineteenth century at its original location, and the move to Enniskerry represented a significant transition in its development. The current course provides a parkland alternative to the many links courses along Ireland's east coast, and the setting in the Wicklow countryside gives the club a distinct character within the region's golf landscape.
