MIACOMET GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Nantucket, MA, USA
Designed by Howard Maurer, Ralph Marbel
Miacomet, Nantucket's only public 18-hole course, captures the spirit of island golf - unpretentious, windswept, and thoroughly engaging. More than just a round, it is a cultural experience, where Nantucket locals, summer visitors, and aspiring golfers converge to tackle the course’s challenges.
Built on rolling, sandy terrain that echoes the links courses of Scotland and Ireland, Miacomet offers a true taste of seaside golf. Opened in 1963, the course rewards creativity and adaptability with firm fairways and undulating greens. The layout features several sharp doglegs, demanding strategic shot placement over raw power, and the ever-present coastal winds add another layer of complexity. Do not be fooled by the benign setting, however, as the prevailing winds can be especially penalizing, and a premium is paid for keeping the ball in the fairway.
While Miacomet has never hosted a major championship, its charm lies in its accessibility and the genuine character of its players. The club fosters a welcoming atmosphere where stories from the day’s round are often shared over casual meals, a true reflection of Nantucket's laid-back culture. It is a course that embodies the soul of the island.
One local favorite at Miacomet is a classic New England staple, clam chowder. The chowder is rumored to be the best on Nantucket. With fresh clams coming off the island daily, it can truly be something special.
Reviews
One of the top ranked public’s in Ma. If the wind is up look out! Great layout, it’s a course that you can play over and over again. Range is so so, service is impeccable, food is top quality, it’s a must play if you’re on Nantucket and don’t know any members at the other courses.
Having been blessed to play many places, Miacomet is perhaps the best playing conditions of any course I’ve seen. Incredibly firm and fast, and greens roll so pure.
One of the best public courses you can play, but like anything on Nantucket it comes with a hefty price tag. The layout is a ton of fun, with mostly friendly wide fairways to receive shots, but some tricky greens to provide a challenge. A very scoreable course if the wind is down, and always a ton of fun.
It’s pricey but easily nicest course on island. And sat in the south part of Nantucket nearby some of the best beaches (sadly no ocean views). Also near Cisco Brewery which is great time for drinks/ socializing afterwards
