KIERLAND GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Scottsdale, AZ, USA
Designed by Scott Miller
The Mesquite Course at Kierland Golf Club opened in 1996 as part of a 27-hole facility designed by Scott Miller in north Scottsdale. Miller, who worked extensively in the Southwest and collaborated with various design firms throughout his career, created three distinct nine-hole loops at Kierland that can be combined into different 18-hole configurations. The Mesquite nine forms one-third of this routing, sharing the property with the Ironwood and Acacia nines.
The course occupies relatively flat desert terrain characteristic of the Scottsdale area, with the layout incorporating native Sonoran Desert vegetation including the namesake mesquite trees, saguaro cacti, and various desert scrub. The design reflects the target-golf style common to desert courses of this era, where defined landing areas and greens are framed by natural desert waste areas. Water features appear on several holes, adding strategic elements to what is otherwise a desert parkland setting.
Kierland Golf Club operates as part of the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, making all 27 holes accessible to resort guests and outside play. The facility serves both resort visitors and local golfers, with the multiple nine-hole combinations allowing for varied experiences and efficient pace of play. The club maintains a casual, resort-oriented atmosphere typical of Scottsdale's hospitality-focused golf properties, with the courses designed to accommodate a range of skill levels while showcasing the desert landscape that defines the region's golf character.
