ISLETA EAGLE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Albuquerque, NM, USA
Designed by Bill Phillips

Isleta Eagle Golf Club sits on the Pueblo of Isleta lands just south of Albuquerque, where the high desert landscape meets the Rio Grande Valley. Bill Phillips designed the facility with two distinct eighteen-hole courses—Mesa and Lakes—that opened in the late 1990s. The property occupies terrain that transitions from elevated mesa plateaus to lower bottomland near the river, giving the two courses markedly different characters despite their proximity.
The Mesa course plays across higher ground with more pronounced elevation changes and expansive views of the Sandia and Manzano mountain ranges. The routing takes advantage of natural arroyos and desert washes, and the holes move through native vegetation including cottonwoods and desert scrub. The design incorporates the rugged topography into strategic decisions, with elevation shifts affecting club selection and approach angles.
The Lakes course occupies the lower terrain closer to the river corridor, where water features come into play more frequently and the landscape feels less severe. The flatter ground and presence of ponds and wetlands create a different set of challenges, with water hazards requiring more precise shot-making. Both courses reflect Phillips' approach to working within the existing landforms rather than imposing heavily manufactured features.
The facility operates under the Pueblo of Isleta's tribal gaming and hospitality enterprise, serving both resort guests and daily-fee players from the Albuquerque area. The high desert climate allows for year-round play in most conditions.
