MERIDIAN HILLS GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Indianapolis, IN, USA
Designed by Alice Dye, Bill Diddel, Bob Lohmann, George Fazio, Pete Dye

Meridian Hills Golf Club sits in a residential neighborhood on the north side of Indianapolis, established in 1921 with an original design by William Diddel. The course occupies rolling terrain characteristic of central Indiana, with mature tree-lined fairways and elevation changes that provide natural strategic interest. Over the decades, the layout has undergone several significant renovations that reflect the evolution of American golf course architecture.
George Fazio worked on the course in the mid-20th century, followed by substantial involvement from Pete Dye beginning in the 1960s. Dye's influence is evident in the bunkering style and green complexes that introduce his characteristic strategic demands. Alice Dye, who collaborated with Pete on numerous projects throughout their careers, also contributed to the course's development. More recently, Bob Lohmann has been involved in renovation work, helping to maintain and update the design while preserving its historical character.
The routing moves through established neighborhoods with generous tree cover, and the property's natural contours create variety in shot-making requirements. The course serves as the home club for a traditional private membership in Indianapolis, with a clubhouse and facilities that reflect its nearly century-long history. Meridian Hills represents a layered design history, with contributions from multiple architects across different eras of golf course design, resulting in a layout that blends classical routing with modern strategic elements.
