Highland Oaks is part of Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, a statewide network of public-access courses developed in the 1990s to promote golf tourism and economic development. The facility in Dothan features three nine-hole layouts—Marshwood, Magnolia, and Highlands—designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. with Roger Rulewich. The Marshwood/Magnolia combination creates one of the eighteen-hole configurations available to players rotating through the property's twenty-seven holes.
