MICCOSUKEE GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Miami, FL, USA
Designed by Mark Mahannah
Miccosukee Golf & Country Club sits in western Miami-Dade County, near the edge of the Everglades and the Miccosukee tribal lands that give the club its name. Mark Mahannah designed the facility with multiple nine-hole loops that can be combined into different eighteen-hole configurations, including the Marlin/Barracuda pairing. The course occupies relatively flat South Florida terrain typical of the region, where water management and strategic bunkering define the playing challenge more than elevation change.
The layout reflects Mahannah's approach to subtropical golf design, incorporating the area's natural wetlands and creating artificial water features that serve both drainage and strategic purposes. Players encounter numerous forced carries and approach shots that require careful club selection given the prevalence of water hazards. The Marlin and Barracuda nines share the characteristics common to South Florida courses built in this era—wide fairways bordered by lakes, Bermuda grass playing surfaces, and palm-lined corridors that provide definition without significant tree canopy.
Miccosukee operates as a private club serving the western Miami suburbs, offering members a golf experience distinct from the denser coastal developments closer to downtown and Miami Beach. The facility includes practice areas and clubhouse amenities typical of country clubs in the region. The course's proximity to both urban Miami and the Everglades ecosystem gives it a transitional character, where residential golf meets the edge of wilderness.
