THE MANOR HOUSE GOLF CLUB
🏴 Castle Combe, Wiltshire, England
Designed by Peter Alliss, Clive Clark
The Manor House occupies a distinctive setting in the Cotswolds, laid out across the grounds of a fourteenth-century manor estate in the village of Castle Combe, Wiltshire. Peter Alliss and Clive Clark designed the course in the early 1990s, routing eighteen holes through parkland that incorporates mature woodland, the River Bybrook, and elevation changes characteristic of this part of southwest England. The design takes advantage of natural features including stone bridges and established trees that frame many of the holes.
The course measures over 6,200 yards from the back tees and presents a parkland character with strategic bunkering and water hazards that come into play on several holes. The routing moves through varied terrain, with the river crossing affecting play on multiple occasions and creating risk-reward decisions. Holes play both along relatively flat sections near the manor buildings and through more undulating ground where the topography influences club selection and approach angles.
The Manor House Golf Club operates as part of the manor hotel property, making it accessible to visitors staying at the estate or booking tee times in advance. The manor house itself, built from Cotswold stone, provides the clubhouse facilities and maintains the historical atmosphere of the grounds. The course serves both members and guests, with the hotel and dining facilities integrated into the overall experience of playing golf within a preserved English country estate setting.
