MANOR GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Sinking Spring, PA, USA
Designed by Alex Findlay

Manor Golf Course in Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, represents an early chapter in American golf course design, laid out by Alex Findlay in the opening decades of the twentieth century. Findlay, a Scottish professional and prolific architect who emigrated to the United States in the 1890s, designed numerous courses across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic during golf's first American boom. His work typically emphasized strategic bunkering and routing that worked naturally with existing terrain, reflecting the principles he brought from Scotland while adapting to American landscapes.
The course occupies rolling terrain characteristic of southeastern Pennsylvania's Berks County, where gentle elevation changes and mature tree growth define the playing corridors. Findlay's designs from this era generally featured modest yardages by contemporary standards but incorporated thoughtful green complexes and hazard placement that rewarded accuracy over distance. The layout reflects the architectural sensibilities of its time, when courses were built to accommodate the equipment and playing styles of the early 1900s.
Manor serves the Sinking Spring community and surrounding Reading area as an accessible facility with historical roots in the region's golfing tradition. The course has evolved over the decades through maintenance practices and membership needs, though elements of Findlay's original routing philosophy likely remain evident in the property's fundamental character. It represents the kind of community golf course that formed the backbone of American golf's growth during the sport's formative years in this country.
Reviews
Was a member here for the 2025 season. They have a Great club pro. Course it self is always in decent shape. Not many bunkers and guys in th pro shop can be incompetent. Nice, walkable local course. Pretty hilly. Good driving range.
