MAN O WAR GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Myrtle Beach, SC, USA
Designed by Dan Maples

Man O' War Golf Club opened in 1996 as part of the Legends Golf Resort complex in Myrtle Beach, designed by Dan Maples. The course takes its name from the legendary racehorse and carries a Scottish links theme throughout its design, though it sits firmly in the South Carolina Lowcountry landscape. Maples routed the course across gently rolling terrain with strategic use of mounding, deep pot bunkers, and waste areas that evoke traditional seaside golf despite being located several miles inland from the Atlantic coast.
The layout features wide fairways that encourage aggressive play off the tee, but approach shots demand precision to elevated, undulating greens protected by the architect's signature deep bunkering. Water comes into play on several holes, and the course incorporates native grasses and sandy areas that frame the playing corridors. The design emphasizes ground game options and rewards creative shot-making rather than relying solely on aerial assault.
As part of the Legends complex, Man O' War shares facilities with two other courses on the property and attracts a steady flow of golf tourists visiting the Grand Strand. The course has hosted various regional amateur events and remains a popular choice among the dozens of public-access courses in the Myrtle Beach area. The clubhouse serves all three courses at the resort and provides standard amenities for daily-fee players making their way through one of America's most concentrated golf destinations.
