THISTLE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Sunset Beach, NC, USA
Designed by Tim Cate

MacKay/Cameron at Thistle Golf Club reflects a deliberate echo of Scottish golfing traditions transplanted to the Carolina coast near Calabash. Carved into the low-lying landscape, its open fairways are reminiscent of classic links, encouraging a ground game while coastal breezes test club selection.
Designed by Tim Cate, the course embraces the natural undulations of the terrain, creating subtle challenges that reward strategic play more than raw power. Doglegs weave through strategically placed bunkers and native grasses, demanding thoughtful shot placement rather than brute force.
While Thistle hasn’t hosted major championships, its appeal lies in its welcoming membership and relaxed atmosphere. Stories circulate of spirited matches and convivial gatherings in the clubhouse, often accompanied by the local Calabash-style seafood that's been known to fuel a few friendly wagers on the 18th green.
