SLEEPY HOLLOW COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Scarborough, NY, USA
Designed by A .W. Tillinghast

Sleepy Hollow Country Club’s Lower Course exists in the shadow of its celebrated sibling, a tale as old as sibling rivalry itself. Carved into the rolling hills of Briarcliff Manor, it presents a sturdy, classical parkland challenge that, while not demanding the raw length of modern championship courses, rewards strategic play and course management.
Originally designed in the early Golden Age, the Lower Course reflects the era's emphasis on natural contours and strategic bunkering. While the primary focus has always rested on the Upper Course, the Lower has seen subtle refinements over time, ensuring its playability and relevance for a diverse membership. It presents a tight but fair test, with several holes that favor a right-to-left ball flight, weaving through mature trees and demanding precise approaches to well-guarded greens.
While not a regular host to major professional events, the Lower Course enjoys a strong reputation within the regional amateur circuit. A round here, particularly after a spirited match on the Upper, often concludes with camaraderie and lively conversation at the clubhouse, steeped in the club’s rich history. It is said that many a crucial business deal has been quietly brokered over a post-round drink, cementing Sleepy Hollow's place as a hub of commerce and community within Westchester County. The club and its membership are also known to love a good plate of linguini and clam sauce, and is the go-to dish after a round.
Reviews
Skip the range and warmup on the Lower prior to your round at the Upper. Well worth it.
