LOCH LOMOND GOLF COURSE
🏴 Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland
Designed by Jay Morrish, Tom Weiskopf

Loch Lomond occupies a dramatic site on the southwestern shore of its namesake loch in the Scottish Highlands, approximately twenty miles northwest of Glasgow. Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish designed the course in the mid-1990s on the historic Rossdhu estate, creating a parkland layout that contrasts with Scotland's traditional links courses. The routing takes advantage of the property's natural amphitheater setting, with holes framed by mature woodlands and offering views across the loch to Ben Lomond and the surrounding peaks.
The course measures over 7,100 yards from the championship tees and features significant elevation changes throughout the round. Several holes play along the loch shore, while others move through dense forest and across rolling terrain. The design incorporates strategic bunkering and water hazards, with the loch itself coming into play on multiple occasions. The par-three fifth hole, which plays across an inlet of the loch to a peninsula green, represents one of the more photographed settings in Scottish golf.
Loch Lomond hosted the Scottish Open on the European Tour from 1996 through 2010, attracting strong international fields as a key preparation event before The Open Championship. The club operates as an exclusive private facility with a small membership, and the course is not accessible for daily public play. The clubhouse, situated in the restored Rossdhu mansion, maintains the estate's historical character while serving the membership's needs.
Reviews
This place gets beat up a lot by people who act like they know golf but don’t. It’s an absolute treat to play. Hard with some wind coming off the loch. Fun layout. Incredible club house and service. Enjoyed it tremendously.
