THE GOLF CLUB AT HAWKS PRAIRIE
🇺🇸 Lacey, WA, USA
Designed by Peter L. H. Thompson

The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie's Links course sits in Lacey, Washington, just south of Olympia in the southern Puget Sound region. Designed by Peter L. H. Thompson and opened in the mid-1990s, the course occupies gently rolling terrain that was once prairie and farmland. The layout takes its name from the relatively open character of the property, though the setting differs from traditional seaside links—the land here features native grasses, scattered stands of Douglas fir, and views toward the Cascade foothills rather than ocean dunes.
Thompson routed the course to make use of the natural contours and preserve sight lines across the open landscape. The design emphasizes strategic bunkering and mounding that frames fairways and greens, with wind often a factor given the exposed nature of the site. Several holes play along elevation changes that add visual interest and require thoughtful club selection. The course serves as one of two eighteen-hole layouts at Hawks Prairie, the other being the Woodlands course, giving the facility a reputation as a public golf destination in the Thurston County area.
Hawks Prairie operates as a daily-fee facility and has hosted regional amateur competitions over the years. The club offers a straightforward golf experience focused on course conditioning and accessibility for players throughout the South Sound region, with the Links course generally regarded as the more open and wind-influenced of the two layouts on the property.
