LEO J. MARTIN MEMORIAL GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Weston, MA, USA
Designed by Donald Ross

Leo J. Martin Memorial Golf Course, a classic public layout nestled in Weston, Massachusetts, bears the distinct mark of mid-century design, offering a welcoming challenge to golfers of all skill levels. The course is carved through gently rolling, tree-lined terrain, a parkland style layout that favors strategic play over brute power. While the fairways are generous, subtle doglegs and well-placed bunkers require thoughtful club selection and precise approaches. Local lore suggests that weekend foursomes have been known to settle particularly vexing bets with a sudden-death match on the deceptively challenging par-3 17th.
Originally conceived by Geoffrey Cornish, the course reflects a classic parkland sensibility from the 1960's, prioritizing playability and accessibility. Cornish was known for his designs catering to everyday players, rather than catering to length. The course remains largely unchanged, retaining its original character and charm.
While not host to major championships, Leo J. Martin Memorial is a beloved community hub, a place where generations of golfers have learned the game and fostered a deep appreciation for the sport. Known as a “player-friendly” course, it remains a highly active recreational facility.
Reviews
Absolutely kills me to say "don't go" to Leo. The conditions don't usually matter to me, but if it's unplayable conditions, that's a different story. There are some out-out-out-outstanding holes (15-18 are wow worthy) but you can't even see them anymore. The state of Massachusetts should be ashamed of themselves.
