LEGEND TRAIL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Scottsdale, AZ, USA
Designed by Rees Jones
Legend Trail sits in the northern reaches of Scottsdale, where the high Sonoran Desert transitions into more rugged terrain near the base of Pinnacle Peak. Rees Jones designed the course in the mid-1990s, routing it through natural desert washes and across rolling elevation changes that offer views of the surrounding mountain ranges. The layout preserves much of the native landscape—saguaro cacti, palo verde, and ocotillo frame the playing corridors—while incorporating strategic bunkering and water features that define the challenge on several holes.
The course measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees and features a variety of hole styles that take advantage of the property's natural movement. Several holes play along or across desert arroyos, requiring carries over native vegetation and rewarding accurate placement. The greens are typically elevated and well-defended, characteristic of Jones's design approach that emphasizes precision over distance. Par threes offer particular variety, ranging from short iron tests to longer carries across desert terrain.
Legend Trail operates as a semi-private facility, with a clubhouse that serves both members and daily-fee players. The course attracts a mix of Scottsdale residents and visitors seeking a desert golf experience in a less densely developed part of the valley. Conditioning tends to reflect the high desert environment, with fairways and greens maintained to standards common among Arizona's better daily-fee and semi-private courses.
