TERRE BLANCHE GOLF CLUB
🇫🇷 Tourettes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, FR
Designed by Dave Thomas
Le Riou is one of two championship courses at Terre Blanche Golf Club, designed by British architect Dave Thomas and opened in 2004. The course occupies rolling terrain in the Var region of Provence, roughly midway between Cannes and Grasse, where the landscape transitions from coastal plains to the foothills of the Maritime Alps. Thomas routed the layout through natural valleys and across hillsides covered with Mediterranean vegetation, including olive groves, umbrella pines, and native scrubland that frames many holes.
The design emphasizes strategic variety over length, with fairways that move across the property's natural contours and greens positioned to reward precise approach play. Elevation changes throughout the round create both visual interest and tactical considerations, particularly on holes that play downhill or require carries over ravines. Water features appear selectively, and bunkering follows a traditional style that complements the Provençal setting rather than dominating it.
Terre Blanche operates as a luxury resort destination, and Le Riou serves resort guests alongside members, offering a contrast to the property's second course, Le Château. The facility includes extensive practice areas and maintains playing conditions suited to year-round golf in the Mediterranean climate. The course has hosted professional events on the European developmental tours, though it remains primarily known as a high-end resort amenity within the broader French Riviera golf market.
