LATOUR GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Mathews, LA, USA
Designed by David Toms, Ken Morgan

LaTour Golf Club sits in Mathews, a small community in Lafourche Parish along Louisiana's bayou country south of New Orleans. The course was designed by Ken Morgan in collaboration with David Toms, the PGA Tour professional and 2001 PGA Championship winner who grew up in the region. Opened in the mid-2000s, the layout reflects both Morgan's architectural experience and Toms's competitive insights, creating a course that balances strategic interest with playability suited to the flat, low-lying terrain of south Louisiana.
The routing works within the constraints of the coastal plain landscape, where elevation change is minimal and water management is essential. Ponds, canals, and wetland areas figure prominently in the design, both for drainage and as strategic hazards. The course incorporates native grasses and vegetation typical of the bayou environment, and wind often becomes a factor given the open exposure of the site. Several holes require careful club selection and course management around water hazards that frame greens and fairways.
LaTour serves as a semi-private facility and has hosted regional amateur events, providing competitive golf in an area of Louisiana where courses must contend with heat, humidity, and occasional tropical weather. The design emphasizes shot values that reward accuracy and local knowledge, particularly in managing the ever-present water and reading greens that can be influenced by subtle grain and moisture conditions common to Gulf Coast courses.
