LAKESIDE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Burbank, CA, USA
Designed by Max Behr, Willie Watson
Lakeside Golf Club, a sanctuary for Hollywood's elite since its inception, remains a bastion of old-school golf in the heart of Burbank. The course, reflective of its 1920s Golden Age design, presents a classic parkland challenge, the rolling terrain unfolding amidst mature trees and cunningly placed bunkers. Lakeside favors shot-makers who can shape the ball, rewarding strategic play over sheer power. Its relatively tight fairways and subtle doglegs demand thoughtful club selection and an appreciation for precision.
Original architect Max Behr crafted a layout that blends seamlessly with the natural landscape. While the course hasn't hosted major professional championships, its history is intertwined with the entertainment industry. Legendary figures from Bob Hope to Bing Crosby graced its fairways, solidifying Lakeside's reputation as a place where business and leisure intersected seamlessly. Its exclusive membership remains populated with notable figures from the entertainment world.
Lakeside's charm lies not in its national acclaim but in its intimate setting and storied past. The vibe here is quiet and the food is classic and very good. While it may not dominate leaderboards, the club’s enduring appeal speaks to its role as a haven for those who value tradition, camaraderie, and a meticulously maintained golf experience.
Reviews
Tough to put into words. Could be the biggest hidden gem in the country and it should stay that way.
Pristine, one of the best conditioned clubs in LA… #lush Great membership and a really fun day #lush x2
Dubbed “Hollywood’s” golf club, it seems Lakeside is everything you want in a golf club, and more. Walkable and interesting layout, excellent conditions, and what is undoubtedly one of the coolest bars in LA. It’s timeless. They also have the best jambalaya pasta I’ve ever had, what’s not to like?
Best golf hang in LA and top 10 in US. Members are all super friendly and welcoming. Drinks are BIG pours and selection is top shelf. Course is challenging and in impeccable shape.
Like playing in a glossy coffee table book titled Golf In Hollywood, but come prepared; this is Big Boy golf post-renovation. Generous targets off the tee, just the right amount of tree cover for my liking and expansive greens that offer many pin locations and variety. Oh, it’s also the coolest place you’ll ever play just from a People Watching perspective. Was lucky to play with Striker from Airplane my first round at Lakeside and we went to the Smoke House after golf, which was ironic because his house in Malibu had just burned down. It’s not LACC, Bel-Air, Hillcrest or Riviera, but it’s much better in so many ways.
Hidden gem club with a rich Hollywood history. Always well conditioned, extremely private, no photos allowed. Lots of celebrity members. Gets overshadowed by Riviera, LACC, and Bel-Air but could make the case for the 3rd best course in LA. Incredible bar.
