Kings Island Golf Club

Kings Island Golf Club's Lakeside course sits in Son Tai district, approximately 45 kilometers west of central Hanoi. Designed by Robert McFarland, the layout occupies land along the Red River delta where the terrain transitions from the flat agricultural plains characteristic of northern Vietnam to gently rolling topography. The course takes its name from the network of lakes and water features that define much of the routing, a common element in Vietnamese golf design where irrigation reservoirs and natural waterways are integrated into play. McFarland's design works within the delta landscape, incorporating the existing water bodies as strategic hazards while utilizing the modest elevation changes available on the property. The routing typically features wide fairways bordered by tropical vegetation, with bunkers positioned to challenge approach angles rather than simply penalize wayward drives. Several holes play directly alongside or across the lakes that give the course its identity, requiring carry shots over water on both tee balls and approaches.
