CENTENNIAL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Carmel, NY, USA
Designed by Larry Nelson
Carved into the rolling hills of Carmel Hamlet, NY, Lakes/Meadows at Centennial Golf Club provides a challenging yet accessible experience for golfers of all skill levels. The course possesses that distinct Robert Trent Jones, Jr. pedigree, defined by strategic bunkering and water hazards that demand thoughtful course management, but not necessarily length or raw power. Fairways, generous in width, often reward a controlled fade, particularly on several dogleg-right holes that subtly dictate strategy.
Centennial's design reflects a later-period Jones Jr. philosophy – a conscious effort to balance challenge with playability. While not a championship venue in the mold of some of his more demanding creations, the course hosts a vibrant club championship and numerous regional amateur events, fostering a competitive yet convivial atmosphere.
Beyond the golf, Centennial is known within the local community for its relaxed and welcoming membership. The nineteenth hole, as they say, is a true reflection of the course. The grill room is a popular spot for post-round camaraderie, and rumors abound of tightly contested gin rummy games and the occasional wager settled over plates of their celebrated buffalo wings. The club serves as an important and sociable center for the community.
