Lake Toxaway at Lake Toxaway Country Club

Lake Toxaway Country Club sits in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, approximately thirty miles southwest of Asheville. The course occupies elevated terrain above Lake Toxaway, a private mountain lake that gives the community its name. The routing takes advantage of the natural topography, with holes moving through hardwood forests and across sloping terrain that offers views of the surrounding peaks and the lake below.

The design work represents a collaboration between Reg Heinitsh and Kris Spence, who shaped a layout that responds to the mountain landscape. The course features elevation changes typical of Blue Ridge golf, with holes playing both uphill and downhill through corridors of mature trees. The terrain creates strategic variety, with approach shots often requiring careful club selection to account for slope and altitude.

Lake Toxaway Country Club functions as the centerpiece of a private residential community that developed around the historic lake. The club serves a membership drawn from both full-time residents and seasonal property owners who maintain homes in this part of the North Carolina mountains. The setting emphasizes privacy and natural beauty, with the golf course integrated into a landscape that has attracted visitors to the Lake Toxaway area since the early twentieth century, when the original lake and resort were established before later redevelopment.
