The design reflects the corporate-built golf courses that proliferated during Japan's economic expansion, when companies like Taisei applied engineering expertise to shape golf holes from challenging topography. Fairways move through stands of pine and deciduous trees, and the layout incorporates the natural contours rather than extensive earthmoving. Lake Sagami serves primarily a membership drawn from the Tokyo metropolitan area, functioning as a weekend retreat from the city. The club follows traditional Japanese golf customs, including caddie service and attention to pace of play. The course provides a representative example of mountain golf in the Kanto region, where limited flat land pushed development into steeper, more dramatic settings that define much of Japanese golf architecture from this era.
