LAKE BLACKSHEAR RESORT AND GOLF CLUB AT GEORGIA VETERANS STATE PARK
🇺🇸 Cordele, GA, USA
Designed by Denis Griffiths

Lake Blackshear Resort and Golf Club sits within Georgia Veterans State Park near Cordele in south-central Georgia, approximately halfway between Macon and Albany. Designed by Denis Griffiths and opened in the 1970s, the course occupies rolling terrain along the eastern shore of Lake Blackshear, a reservoir created by a dam on the Flint River. The setting combines mature pines and hardwoods with periodic views of the water, characteristic of Georgia's Coastal Plain region.
The layout incorporates the natural topography with elevation changes that are modest but noticeable for this part of the state. Several holes play near or along the lake, bringing water into play and providing visual relief from the tree-lined corridors found elsewhere on the property. Griffiths, a regional architect active across the Southeast during the mid-twentieth century, designed the course to accommodate a range of skill levels while taking advantage of the lakeside location.
As part of a state park facility, Lake Blackshear serves both resort guests and local golfers. The course operates within the broader amenities of Georgia Veterans State Park, which includes lodging, camping, and recreational facilities honoring military veterans. The park setting gives the course a more relaxed, public-access character compared to private clubs in the region, and the golf operation functions as a component of the state's park system rather than as a standalone resort destination.
