Lake at Spring City Golf & Lake Resort

The Lake Course at Spring City Golf & Lake Resort sits on the shores of Yangzong Lake, approximately 40 kilometers east of Kunming in China's Yunnan Province. Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed the course in the mid-1990s as part of a 36-hole resort complex that also includes his Mountain Course. The property occupies elevated terrain at roughly 1,900 meters above sea level, where the high-altitude setting affects ball flight and playing strategy.

Jones routed the Lake Course to take advantage of the natural topography and water views, with several holes playing along the lakeshore and others moving through rolling terrain inland. The design incorporates the architect's characteristic strategic bunkering and green complexes that reward precise approach play. The course features significant elevation changes on certain holes, and the lakeside holes provide both scenic backdrop and strategic challenge, as wind off the water can influence club selection and shot shaping.

Spring City opened during a period of golf course development in China and has hosted professional events on the Asian Tour circuit. The resort attracts both international visitors and domestic golfers, offering accommodation and facilities alongside the two championship courses. The Yunnan climate allows for year-round play, though the high elevation and occasional weather patterns from the lake can create variable playing conditions. The Lake Course represents Jones's approach to integrating golf architecture with dramatic natural settings while maintaining playability across different skill levels.
