LONG THANH GOLF CLUB
🇻🇳 Phuoc Tan, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, VN
Designed by David Dale, Ron Fream
Long Thanh Golf Club's Lake Course sits in the Phuoc Tan area of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, roughly an hour's drive east of Ho Chi Minh City. Designed by Ron Fream and David Dale, the course reflects Fream's extensive portfolio across Southeast Asia, where he established Golf Plan as one of the region's most active design firms from the 1970s onward. The collaboration with Dale produced a layout that works with the relatively flat terrain characteristic of this coastal province, incorporating water features that give the course its name and define much of the strategic interest.
The routing makes substantial use of lakes and ponds, which come into play on multiple holes and require golfers to consider carry distances and bailout areas off the tee and on approaches. The flat topography allows for wide fairway corridors in places, though the water hazards tighten landing zones and green complexes throughout the round. Vegetation typical of southern Vietnam—palms, tropical hardwoods, and flowering shrubs—frames holes and provides definition between playing corridors.
Long Thanh serves both local members and visiting golfers traveling from Ho Chi Minh City, functioning as part of the region's golf infrastructure that developed during Vietnam's economic expansion in recent decades. The course offers a straightforward test suited to mid-handicap players while presenting enough hazard management challenges to keep stronger players engaged. Conditions and maintenance reflect the tropical climate, with Bermuda or similar warm-season grasses handling the heat and seasonal rainfall patterns of the Mekong Delta region.
