Lady Bird Johnson Municipal at Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Golf Course sits in the Texas Hill Country near Fredericksburg, a region characterized by rolling limestone terrain, native oak and juniper vegetation, and exposed rock outcroppings. Designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1991, the course was named in honor of the former First Lady, who maintained strong ties to the area and championed native landscaping and wildflower preservation throughout her life. The layout reflects both the natural topography of the Hill Country and Brauer's approach to creating playable public golf that works within existing landforms.

The course measures approximately 6,500 yards from the back tees and incorporates elevation changes and the area's characteristic limestone features into its design. Brauer routed holes to take advantage of views across the surrounding hills while preserving much of the native vegetation that defines the region's landscape. The layout includes several holes where rock outcroppings and natural drainage patterns influence strategy and shot selection.

As a municipal facility, Lady Bird Johnson serves both local residents and visitors to the Fredericksburg area, which draws tourists for its German heritage, wineries, and proximity to the LBJ Ranch. The course provides a public golf option in a part of Texas where the terrain offers more dramatic contours than the flatter courses found in other parts of the state, giving players a Hill Country experience at accessible green fees.
