GOLF DU TOUQUET
🇫🇷 Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, FR
Designed by Harry S. Colt
La Mer at Golf du Touquet occupies a dramatic stretch of duneland along the northern French coast near Le Touquet-Paris-Plage. Harry Colt designed the course in 1931, working with natural linksland that ranks among the most pronounced dune systems in continental Europe. The routing moves through valleys and over ridges of sand, with fairways that rise and fall across terrain reminiscent of the great British links. The property sits close enough to the English Channel that wind is a constant presence, and the sandy soil provides firm, fast conditions characteristic of true links golf.
Colt's design takes full advantage of the topography, with holes playing through corridors of dunes and across elevated plateaus that offer views toward the sea. The movement in the land creates blind or semi-blind shots, dramatic elevation changes, and green sites perched on natural shelves or nestled in hollows. The bunkering follows Colt's typical style—strategically placed rather than excessive, with shapes that complement the natural contours. Several holes play along the highest ground, where the exposure to wind makes club selection particularly challenging.
Le Touquet developed as a fashionable resort town in the early twentieth century, popular with Parisians and English visitors, and the golf club reflects that heritage. Golf du Touquet operates two courses on the property; La Mer is the championship layout and has hosted French national championships. The setting remains relatively undeveloped, preserving the wild character of the dunes and maintaining the course's reputation as one of the finest links experiences available in France.
