LOS SUENOS MARRIOTT OCEAN & GOLF RESORT
🇨🇷 Playa Herradura, Puntarenas, CR
Designed by Ted Robinson Jr.

La Iguana occupies a dramatic hillside site at Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort along Costa Rica's central Pacific coast near Playa Herradura. Ted Robinson Jr. designed the course to take advantage of the property's natural elevation changes, routing holes through tropical rainforest terrain that rises from sea level to approximately 350 feet above the ocean. The layout incorporates the region's dense vegetation and wildlife corridors—iguanas, monkeys, and tropical birds are common sightings—while opening periodic views across the Gulf of Nicoya and the surrounding coastline.
The course features significant elevation change throughout the round, with several holes playing sharply uphill or downhill through the jungle canopy. Water comes into play on multiple holes, both from natural ravines and constructed features typical of Robinson's design approach. The routing moves through distinct microclimates as it climbs and descends the hillside, with some holes playing in exposed coastal conditions and others sheltered within the forest interior. The tropical setting requires year-round maintenance adapted to high rainfall and humidity.
As part of a resort property, La Iguana serves both destination golfers visiting Costa Rica and members of the residential community at Los Sueños. The course operates within a broader resort complex that includes marina facilities and has become a recognized golf destination along Costa Rica's Pacific coast, where championship-caliber courses remain relatively uncommon compared to other Central American and Caribbean locations.
