GOLF LA FINCA
🇪🇸 Algorfa, Comunidad Valenciana, ES
Designed by Pepe Gancedo
La Finca occupies a gently rolling landscape in the Vega Baja region of southern Alicante province, approximately fifteen kilometers inland from the Costa Blanca. Designed by Pepe Gancedo and opened in 2002, the course reflects the Spanish architect's preference for strategic variety and integration with natural terrain. The routing moves through groves of citrus and almond trees characteristic of this agricultural valley, with the Sierra de Orihuela forming a distant backdrop to the west.
Gancedo's design emphasizes width off the tee but tightens approaches into well-contoured greens defended by bunkers and occasional water features. The front nine plays through relatively open terrain, while the back nine introduces more elevation change and denser tree corridors that demand greater precision. Several holes incorporate dry stone walls and Mediterranean vegetation native to the region, giving the course a distinctly Spanish character rather than imitating links or parkland models from elsewhere in Europe.
The layout has hosted various regional amateur events and serves as a year-round facility in an area popular with northern European golf tourists. The climate permits play throughout the winter months, and the course attracts a mix of local members and visiting societies. Conditioning standards remain consistent with the expectations of the residential golf community that developed around the property during Spain's early-2000s construction boom in the Alicante hinterland.
