KNIGHTSBROOK HOTEL, SPA & GOLF RESORT
🇮🇪 Trim, Meath, IE
Designed by Christy O'Connor Jr.
Knightsbrook occupies gently rolling parkland on the outskirts of Trim in County Meath, approximately thirty miles northwest of Dublin. Christy O'Connor Jr. designed the course in the late 1990s as the centerpiece of a hotel and spa resort, routing the layout through mature woodland and along the banks of the River Knightsbrook. The property's natural contours and established trees provide definition to the holes, while water features—both the river and several constructed lakes—come into play on multiple occasions throughout the round.
The course stretches across varied terrain that allows O'Connor to present different challenges hole to hole. Several holes play through tree-lined corridors, while others open onto broader fairways with more strategic options from the tee. The architect incorporates elevation changes that are modest by Irish standards but sufficient to create visual interest and affect club selection on approach shots. The greens are typically well-bunkered and contoured to reward accurate iron play.
Knightsbrook has hosted professional events on the European Challenge Tour and Ladies European Tour, bringing competitive golf to the Meath region. The resort setting means the course serves both visiting golfers and local members, with full practice facilities and clubhouse amenities integrated into the broader hotel operation. The location in Trim, a historic town known for its Norman castle, places the course within reach of Dublin while maintaining a quieter, more rural atmosphere than courses closer to the capital.
