The routing takes advantage of natural elevation changes and wooded corridors typical of this part of Mississippi. Connor, a regional architect with several courses across the South, designed Kirkwood National to incorporate the property's native features rather than impose dramatic earthwork. The layout moves through stands of hardwoods and pines, with fairways that follow the land's contours. Water features appear on several holes, reflecting the area's drainage patterns and adding strategic variety to the design. Holly Springs itself is a town with antebellum history, located roughly forty miles southeast of Memphis. The golf club serves both local members and visitors exploring northern Mississippi's golf offerings. The course provides a traditional parkland experience suited to the region's climate and landscape, with conditions that vary seasonally as grasses respond to the humid subtropical weather patterns common to this latitude.
