KINLOCH GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Manakin-Sabot, VA, USA
Designed by Lester George, Marvin Giles
Kinloch, carved from the rolling Virginia countryside near Richmond, evokes a Highlands links experience despite its inland location. The late 20th century design, a collaboration between Lester George and the legendary Vinny Giles, challenges golfers with strategically placed bunkers and undulating fairways that demand creative shot-making. The course favors those who can navigate its subtle slopes and read the greens with precision, though length off the tee is certainly rewarded.
Beyond the course, Kinloch maintains a decidedly understated atmosphere, a haven for serious golfers. While it hasn’t played host to major championships, its challenging layout has made it a proving ground for top amateurs. The club is known for its demanding membership, individuals passionate about the game and its traditions.
Perhaps Kinloch's most enduring legacy is its unwavering commitment to the spirit of competitive golf. Stories circulate of intense matches and spirited wagering among members, all conducted with the highest level of sportsmanship. Kinloch is a reminder that the purest form of the game often thrives away from the spotlight.
Reviews
Played in 2016. Not sure what has changed but back then was pristine. Hadn’t played much golf in the East so was a change. Have to be precise off of most tees, correct part of greens, etc. Top 10-15 on my list.
