KANSAS CITY COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Mission Hills, KS, USA
Designed by A .W. Tillinghast

Kansas City Country Club occupies a wooded, rolling property in Mission Hills, Kansas, a planned residential community developed in the 1910s just across the state line from Kansas City, Missouri. A. W. Tillinghast designed the course in 1922, and it represents one of his significant Midwestern works from the prolific period following World War I. The layout moves through mature hardwood forests and features the pronounced elevation changes characteristic of the area's natural topography, with several holes playing along or across ravines and ridges.
Tillinghast routed the course to take advantage of the property's natural contours, creating a varied test that emphasizes strategic bunkering and green complexes rather than excessive length. The design includes his trademark features: bold, sculptured bunkers, greens with subtle internal movement, and holes that reward thoughtful placement over pure power. The course underwent a restoration in the early 2000s to reclaim original design elements that had been softened or altered over decades of maintenance evolution.
The club has hosted significant regional amateur championships and qualifiers over its century of existence. Kansas City Country Club maintains a traditional private club atmosphere, with membership drawn largely from the Kansas City metropolitan area's business and professional communities. The clubhouse and grounds reflect the established character of Mission Hills, one of the area's most prominent residential enclaves, and the club has long been regarded as among the region's most prestigious golf and social institutions.
