JUPITER ISLAND CLUB
🇺🇸 Hobe Sound, FL, USA
Designed by Bill Diddel

Jupiter Island Club occupies a narrow barrier island along Florida's southeastern coast in Hobe Sound, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Intracoastal Waterway. Bill Diddel designed the course in the late 1950s, creating a layout that navigates the island's limited width and takes advantage of prevailing ocean breezes. The routing works within the constraints of the slender landform, with holes oriented to make wind direction a constant strategic consideration.
The course features relatively modest elevation changes typical of coastal Florida terrain, but Diddel shaped greens and surrounds to create interest on the flat ground. Fairways are framed by native vegetation and mature tropical plantings that have developed over decades. Several holes play along or across water features connected to the surrounding tidal systems. The design emphasizes precision and course management rather than length, with strategic bunkering and green contours that reward thoughtful play.
Jupiter Island Club maintains a quiet, private character consistent with the residential enclave it serves. The membership has historically included prominent families who value the club's understated atmosphere and its location away from more developed resort areas to the south. The club operates as a traditional seasonal retreat, with most activity concentrated during Florida's winter and spring months. Dining and social traditions reflect the informal elegance common to established barrier island clubs along this stretch of coast.
