LYMAN ORCHARDS GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Middlefield, CT, USA
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.
Jones, at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield, CT, carries the distinction of being the first 18-hole course in Connecticut open to both men and women, a testament to its inclusive origins. Carved into the rolling hills of central Connecticut, the course presents a parkland layout characterized by mature hardwoods and strategic bunkering that frames generous fairways. The course plays more forgivingly off the tee than it does around the greens, rewarding deft wedge play and precise putting.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the course’s classic architecture is evident in its subtly contoured greens and thoughtfully placed hazards. The course unfolds across the landscape with each hole offering unique visual appeal and tactical challenges.
While Jones has not hosted any major professional tournaments, the course maintains a strong reputation within the state and region, and is a popular spot for local tournaments and charity events. Perhaps its most notable feature is the apple orchards that border many of the fairways, a constant reminder of Lyman Orchards' agricultural heritage – and a tempting distraction during the fall harvest. The course has a loyal following among those who appreciate its playability, scenic beauty, and connection to the area's rich history.
Reviews
Played the Jones in the fall and the conditions were really solid. Layout is fun for a public. Everything you can ask for at this price.
Lyman Orchards is a hidden gem tucked away in the middle of Connecticut. Connecticut golf is truly one of the most underrated spots in the country. As September rolls in the hills of central Connecticut turn bright orange and red, and give surprisingly good views at Lyman. Cheap and maintained well, it’s a great value course.
