GOLF DE ST-CLOUD
🇫🇷 Garches, Ile-de-France, FR
Designed by Harry S. Colt, Jim Morrison
Golf de St-Cloud's Jaune course occupies a historic property in Garches, just west of Paris in the Hauts-de-Seine department. The club dates to 1901 and sits on former royal hunting grounds, with the original layout designed by Willie Dunn. Harry Colt redesigned the property in the 1920s, creating what became two distinct eighteen-hole courses. The Jaune (Yellow) course received further modifications from architect Jim Morrison, who worked on various European layouts in the latter twentieth century.
The course plays through mature parkland with significant elevation change characteristic of the Seine valley terrain. Large trees frame many holes, and the routing takes advantage of natural contours that create both uphill and downhill shots. The property's position on elevated ground provides views across the surrounding landscape, though the design focuses primarily on strategic shot-making through wooded corridors rather than open vistas.
St-Cloud has hosted numerous French national championships and international amateur events over its long history. The club maintains two courses—the Jaune and the Vert (Green)—which together provide members with varied playing options on a relatively compact property close to central Paris. The club's longevity and location have made it a fixture in French golf, serving both competitive players and recreational members from the Paris region. The parkland setting and mature vegetation give both courses a traditional European character distinct from links golf but representative of continental design principles.
