Island Oaks at Lima Golf & Country Club is a John Checho design located in the Finger Lakes region of western New York, approximately thirty miles south of Rochester. Checho, a regional architect active primarily in New York and Pennsylvania during the mid-to-late twentieth century, routed the course to take advantage of natural elevation changes and mature tree corridors that define individual holes. The layout features a mix of open and wooded holes, with several playing through stands of oak and other hardwoods that give the course its name. Water comes into play on select holes, typically in the form of ponds or small creeks that cross fairways or guard greens.
