KIERLAND GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Scottsdale, AZ, USA
Designed by Scott Miller

Ironwood at Kierland Golf Club is a Scott Miller design that opened in the mid-1990s as part of the Kierland master-planned community in north Scottsdale. Miller, who worked extensively in the Southwest and collaborated on several notable Arizona courses, routed this layout through relatively flat desert terrain characteristic of the Sonoran landscape. The course takes its name from the native ironwood trees that punctuate the property alongside saguaro cacti, palo verde, and other indigenous vegetation.
The design emphasizes strategic shot-making over dramatic elevation changes, with fairways framed by desert waste areas and natural arroyos that come into play on approach shots. Water features appear on several holes, a common element in resort-area courses of this era, and the bunkering follows a contemporary style with clean edges and bright sand. The greens offer moderate undulation and are generally receptive to well-struck iron shots.
Kierland operates as a semi-private facility within a residential community that includes resort amenities and dining options. The course serves both members and resort guests, fitting into Scottsdale's broader golf tourism landscape. Ironwood shares the property with its companion course, Acacia, and both layouts provide accessible desert golf without the severe penalty areas found on some of the region's more rugged designs. The setting offers views toward the McDowell Mountains to the east, typical of courses in this part of the Valley.
