IRON HORSE GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 North Richland Hills, TX, USA
Designed by Dick Phelps
Iron Horse, a sprawling public course carved from the Texas prairie of Haltom City, tells a story of accessible golf sculpted from unforgiving terrain.
Built in the late 1990s during a surge of public course construction, Iron Horse navigates a landscape dotted with native grasses and deceptively rolling hills. It favors players who can manage the wind and accurately judge distances, with several holes demanding strategic shot placement to avoid lurking hazards and severe undulations. The course isn't known to intimidate or punish golfers. Rather, a fun course that has the right amount of challenge in the right locations.
Designed by Gary Stephenson, Iron Horse presents a straightforward layout. It doesn’t boast the pedigree of a championship venue, nor has it been on the tournament circuit. Instead, it has held several local and junior tournaments.
Iron Horse, celebrated as a friendly and accessible golf destination in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, features a signature halfway house renowned for its hearty Texas fare, most notably their brisket sandwiches. These sandwiches have become a post-round ritual for many locals and visiting golfers, adding a uniquely Texan flavor to the Iron Horse experience.
