INVERNESS CLUB
🇺🇸 Toledo, OH, USA
Designed by Andrew Green, Arthur Hills, Donald Ross, George Fazio, MacCurrach Golf, Tom Fazio

Inverness Club, a monument to golfing tradition in Toledo, Ohio, demands respect not just for its championship pedigree, but also for its stubborn resistance to yielding low scores without a fight. A classic parkland layout carved from gently rolling Midwestern terrain, it presents mature tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that place a premium on strategic play over brute force.
Donald Ross's masterful design, refined over the years by the likes of Dick Wilson and Arthur Hills, features challenging doglegs and deceptively placed bunkers that reward thoughtful approaches and penalize wayward shots. Favoring the player who can shape shots and manage their game, Inverness has tested the mettle of golf's elite for over a century.
Inverness has been a battleground for major championships, including multiple U.S. Opens (most recently in 1979), PGA Championships (including the 1993 edition won by Paul Azinger) and a Senior Open Championship. It also hosted the 2021 Solheim Cup. The club's rich history and demanding layout have solidified its standing as a significant venue in American golf.
While not always commanding national headlines, Inverness Club maintains a dedicated and passionate membership drawn to its challenging layout and commitment to the game's time-honored traditions. This dedication extends to the club’s renowned halfway house, a welcome respite where members and guests alike can savor a bowl of Inverness Clam Chowder—a savory local favorite and a cherished part of the club's unique character.
Reviews
Simply an amazing experience. Between the rich history and the stunning layout, Inverness is simply something you have to experience.
I think that this is probably the best course I’ve ever played in my life. I think the renovations improved this course which is impressive considering how good it was before. The greens here were so challenging and fast, but still rewarded good shots and putts. Everything about this course is first class from the practice facilities, to the staff, to the food. If you ever get a chance to play this course I could not recommend it more.
Favorite course in America that I’ve played to this point. An absolute must play. Perfect blend of fun and difficult, with amazing greens and great facilities.
