INN OF THE MOUNTAIN GODS RESORT
🇺🇸 Mescalero, NM, USA
Designed by Ted Robinson

Inn of the Mountain Gods sits on the Mescalero Apache Reservation in south-central New Mexico, approximately fifteen miles southwest of Ruidoso in the Sacramento Mountains. Ted Robinson designed the course as part of the resort property, which overlooks Lake Mescalero at an elevation above 7,000 feet. The layout takes advantage of the high-altitude mountain terrain and incorporates the natural ponderosa pine forest and dramatic elevation changes characteristic of the region.
The routing moves through varied topography, with several holes playing along the lakeshore and others climbing into the surrounding hillsides. The thin mountain air affects distance, and the course requires adjustment for altitude. Robinson's design integrates water features and strategic bunkering throughout, with the lake itself coming into play on multiple holes. The mountain setting provides views of Sierra Blanca and the surrounding peaks.
The course serves as the centerpiece of the resort's amenities and is accessible to resort guests and outside play. The property is owned and operated by the Mescalero Apache Tribe, and the resort includes casino gaming, lodging, and dining facilities. The combination of mountain golf and resort infrastructure makes it a notable destination course in southern New Mexico, where high-elevation layouts are relatively uncommon compared to the state's northern regions.
Reviews
Have played last years in a modified Ryder cup tourney, beautiful scenery at altitude, several challenging holes with fairway trees to navigate, being at altitude impacts conditions however it is a fun track to play, finishing hole is a long par 3 over water, typically not a fan of finishing with par 3 but 18 at Inn Of Mtn Gods is a gem!
