INDIANA COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Indiana, PA, USA
Designed by Ferdinand Garbin, Willie Park Jr.

Indiana Country Club sits in the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania, approximately fifty miles northeast of Pittsburgh. The course was originally designed by Willie Park Jr., the Scottish professional and two-time Open Championship winner who became one of the early transatlantic golf architects. Park laid out numerous American courses in the early twentieth century, bringing traditional Scottish design principles to varied American landscapes. Ferdinand Garbin, a regional architect active in Pennsylvania and neighboring states during the mid-twentieth century, later contributed modifications to the layout.
The course occupies terrain typical of the Allegheny Plateau region, with moderate elevation changes and tree-lined fairways that characterize inland Pennsylvania golf. The routing takes advantage of natural contours while incorporating the mature hardwood forests common to this part of the state. Park's original design philosophy emphasized strategic bunkering and green complexes that rewarded thoughtful play, though subsequent alterations over the decades have adapted the course to modern equipment and maintenance practices.
Indiana Country Club serves the community of Indiana, the county seat of Indiana County and home to Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The club functions as a traditional private membership facility, providing golf and social amenities to local families and businesses. The course reflects the character of many early-to-mid-twentieth-century American country clubs, where golf developed alongside community social life in smaller cities and towns across the northeastern United States.
Reviews
Fantastic greens with different contours and challenges to them. Speedy as can be when I was there in May. The layout is a bit quirky and is mostly good except for a stretch on holes 6, 8, and 17. It falls a bit victim to a big mountain that runs through a few holes, otherwise a surprisingly good experience
