HUNTINGTON COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Huntington, NY, USA
Designed by Devereux Emmet, Robert Trent Jones Sr.
Huntington Country Club, a fixture of Cold Spring Harbor, embodies the understated elegance of Long Island's North Shore. Its enduring charm lies in its distinctly member-centric ethos, prioritizing camaraderie and unpretentious enjoyment of the game over chasing fleeting accolades.
Laid out in the early 1920s, the course bears the hallmarks of Golden Age design, rewarding strategic play over brute force. The gently rolling parkland, studded with mature hardwoods, presents a classically proportioned test, with doglegs and subtly contoured greens that favor shot-shapers and deft putters. Its original architect is not widely known, and the course has not hosted any major championships.
Huntington's appeal isn't rooted in grandstanding architectural statements, but in its role as a beloved community hub. Locals will note that, after a round, members can always be found enjoying the famous New England Clam Chowder in the clubhouse. Huntington delivers a timeless golf experience, quietly cherished by those who understand its enduring appeal.
Reviews
A classic Deveruex Emmet course, Huntington is decently fun track. Layout and design is not spectacular, but the grounds crew does a very good job. Fast greens and more than 1 gettable 4s make it interesting.
