LINKS HOPE ISLAND GOLF
🇦🇺 Hope Island, Queensland, AU
Designed by Michael Wolveridge, Peter Thomson

Hope Island Golf Club occupies a waterfront site on the Gold Coast of Queensland, approximately midway between Brisbane and the resort centers to the south. The course was designed by Peter Thomson, the five-time Open Championship winner who became one of Australia's most prolific golf architects, in collaboration with Michael Wolveridge. Opened in the early 1990s as part of a residential resort development, the layout takes advantage of the region's network of canals and waterways, with several holes playing along or across these features.
The routing incorporates water on more than half the holes, reflecting the canal-estate character of the broader Hope Island community. The terrain is relatively flat, typical of coastal Queensland sites, and the design relies on strategic bunkering, water hazards, and prevailing winds to provide challenge. Thomson's design philosophy, influenced by his experience on classic links courses, often emphasized playability for members while maintaining interest through thoughtful green complexes and risk-reward options on approach shots.
The club serves a residential membership and has hosted various regional amateur and professional events over the years, contributing to competitive golf on the Gold Coast. The setting offers views across the Coomera River and surrounding waterways, with a subtropical landscape of palms and native vegetation framing the holes. The facility includes practice areas and clubhouse amenities typical of Australian resort-residential golf communities developed during the period.
Reviews
Really nice course in Goldie! One of the most memorable golf experiences when a heard of kangaroos run around and through your tee box. What a round
