HOMINY HILL GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Colts Neck, NJ, USA
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.

Hominy Hill Golf Course in Colts Neck, New Jersey, is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design that opened in 1964 as part of the Monmouth County Park System. Jones created the course on rolling farmland in central New Jersey, and it remains a public facility operated by the county, offering championship-caliber golf at municipal rates. The layout reflects Jones's mid-century design principles, with large greens, strategic bunkering, and an emphasis on shot values that reward accuracy over distance.
The property features significant elevation changes for the region, with the routing moving through wooded corridors and open meadows. Jones shaped the terrain to create visual interest and strategic options, incorporating his characteristic greenside bunkering and approach shot demands. The course measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees, though multiple tee boxes accommodate players of varying abilities. Water comes into play on several holes, and the green complexes require careful club selection and thoughtful approach angles.
Hominy Hill has hosted numerous regional amateur championships and qualifiers over the decades, establishing itself as a respected tournament venue in the New Jersey golf community. The course's conditioning and playability have earned it recognition among public golf facilities in the metropolitan New York area. Its combination of Jones design pedigree, challenging layout, and accessibility as a county-operated course makes it a notable option for golfers seeking a substantial test without private club membership.
Reviews
A good Monmouth county public gem. Best kept public course in the area. A few doglegs that don’t do to well design wise for hitters over 220, but a course that’s fun to play all the time. Not difficult, but a good round to be played and good place to be.
Great shape, but pretty boring layout- almost every hole is a dog leg right
Possibly the most overrated muni in NJ
