PRINCE'S GOLF CLUB
🏴 Sandwich, Kent, England
Designed by Martin Ebert

The Himalayas/Shore combination at Prince's Golf Club represents one of three distinct 9-hole loops that form this links complex on the Kent coast, situated between Royal St George's and Royal Cinque Ports in the famous Sandwich golfing corridor. Martin Ebert undertook a comprehensive redesign of Prince's in the early 2000s, transforming what had been a somewhat flat layout into a more dramatic links experience by creating significant earthworks and restoring strategic bunkering. The Himalayas nine takes its name from the substantial dune ridges that characterize this portion of the property, featuring pronounced elevation changes and blind shots that evoke the bold, adventurous spirit of Victorian-era links golf.
The Shore nine runs closer to Sandwich Bay and offers a contrasting character, with flatter terrain and more exposed conditions where wind becomes the primary defense. Together, these eighteen holes provide a varied test that moves through different microclimates and strategic demands within a single round. The routing takes advantage of the property's natural dune formations while incorporating Ebert's modern understanding of angles, visibility, and recovery options.
Prince's has hosted multiple significant amateur championships and serves as a Final Qualifying venue for The Open Championship when the championship is played at nearby Royal St George's. The club operates on a relatively accessible model compared to its more exclusive neighbors, welcoming visitors throughout the year and maintaining three distinct 9-hole courses that can be combined in various configurations.
