RED HAWK GOLF AND RESORT
🇺🇸 Sparks, NV, USA
Designed by Hale Irwin

Red Hawk Golf and Resort's Hills course opened in the late 1990s as part of a 36-hole facility in Sparks, Nevada, designed by Hale Irwin. The three-time U.S. Open champion brought his championship pedigree to this high-desert layout northeast of Reno, creating a course that navigates rolling terrain characteristic of the western Nevada landscape. The routing takes advantage of natural elevation changes and incorporates the area's native grasses and sagebrush into the playing corridors.
The course sits at approximately 4,500 feet elevation in the high desert, where the terrain provides both strategic interest and scenic variety. Irwin's design emphasizes accuracy and course management over pure length, with fairways that move through the natural contours and greens that require thoughtful approach play. The layout reflects the architect's playing experience, favoring golfers who can shape shots and manage risk appropriately.
Red Hawk operates as a public facility serving the Reno-Sparks market, offering northern Nevada golfers access to a modern championship-length course in a region where golf is played primarily from spring through fall. The Hills course complements the property's Lakes course, also designed by Irwin, giving the resort two distinct routing options across the high-desert landscape. The facility includes practice areas and clubhouse amenities typical of daily-fee resort operations in the western United States.
